Worship & Music

  • The Worship and Music Committee assists the pastor in providing regular and special worship services conducted according to liturgical traditions of the Christian Church and the worship heritage of First Lutheran.  The committee assists in recruiting, training and equipping worship leaders and sacristans, crucifers and acolytes, COVID hosts, readers and lay leaders.  The committee oversees the seasonal design of the sanctuary and narthex.  The committee reviews worship practices, suggests modifications and helps to implement change in order to enhance our worship of God.

  • The Worship and Music Committee is made up of members of the congregation who have a passion and interest in worship, liturgy, seasonal design and music.

  • Worship Leadership Opportunities (Spring 2021)

    • COVID Host:  A combination of greeter and usher, COVID hosts assist worshippers to safely gather during the time of the pandemic.

    • Assisting Ministers:  Individuals who have gifts for leading worship assist the assembly by welcoming the congregation to worship, leading prayers of intercession and assisting the worshipping assembly to their praise and thanks to God.

    • Season Design:  Each liturgical season (Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost) sets a tone for worship.  Volunteers gather to enhance the chancel each season.  They may hang banners, make use of candles, beautify the sanctuary based on the tone of each season.

    • Sound and Media:  With the addition of Facebook livestream as a worship option, volunteers are needed to assist with preparing the worship space to create, document and transmit productions.

    • Sunday Worship for Spring 2021 includes three options:

      • Radio Broadcast:  Donated by members of the congregation each week, iHeart Radio 620 am broadcasts our worship live at 10 am.

      • Facebook Livestream:  Each Sunday at 10 am our worship service is livestreamed on Facebook at www.facebook.com/firstlutheransiouxcity/.  Following our broadcast checkout this website for a youtube broadcast of the service.

      • Resuming In-person Worship:

      • Until further notice, worshippers may gather on Sunday mornings for worship in the sanctuary.  Due to the recommendations of the CDC and our local, state and national government, we ask everyone to wear a mask and safely distance from others while in the building and on the grounds.  We will regard each worshippers safety as a high priority and ask that if you have a temperature or feel ill, you will refrain from attending worship.

      • If you worship with us from a distance, either safely sheltered in place at home or across the country, we invite you to create a home altar.  Lenten Kit - Creating a Home Altar here.

There are three options for joining us for Sunday worship:

Radio, Facebook livestream and In-person at 10 am in the sanctuary.
